About inVESTIR

inVESTIR is a multidisciplinary project between Europe and North Africa, in which virtual art and participatory performance in the public space are intervened in order to create an intercontinental dialogue. The name means in Spanish to vest^ⁱ and refers to the double meaning of the word: to dress and to invest someone with something such as powers or rights. As comprehensive interdisciplinary project, inVESTIR structures itself in two phases. Firstly, there is a virtual phase developed as an intensive research and communication through appropriate social networks. During this part, i Collective e.V. contacted people from North African states and chatted with them regarding issues like identity and future perspectives, among others. inVESTIR also works as a moderator in order to encourage the dialogue between the different participants. These conversations serve as a ground for the second stage of the project.

During this phase some quotations of the dialogues are selected and printed on ecological fair-trade T-shirts. Volunteers wear these T-shirts during one relevant art event, as well as in their everyday lives, in a way to introduce the words of North Africans in a new context. In fact, inVESTIR proposes a transference of subjectivity dynamic in terms of putting someone´s voice in somebody else´s body. At this point, inVESTIR could be also seen as a supra-self project that creates temporary communities and connects them. Over 300 people were part of inVESTIR so far. Furthermore, North African participants are able to follow the project through social networks and a blog.

inVESTIR was firstly developed for Parallel Events Manifesta 8 Biennial in 2010, shortly before the Arab Spring. Through the social upheavals that started in North Africa in 2011 inVESTIR became more relevant as a pre-revolution archive of feelings, impressions and opinions from people living in those countries. In order to explore the changes that the Arab Spring brought in people´s consciousness, i Collective decided to continue the project in 2012. From then on, inVESTIR was presented in Berlin, Germany; Genk, Belgium (Parallel Events Manifesta 9); Hallein, Austria (Schmiede), as a conference in the frame of the Social Media Week (Berlin, 2012) and in the School of Inter-media Arts of Hangzhou, China (2013).

ES - InVESTIR es un proyecto multidisciplinario entre Europa y el Norte de África, en el que el arte virtual, la política y el performance participativo en el espacio público son intervenidos para crear un diálogo intercontinental.

Como proyecto interdisciplinario y abarcativo, inVESTIR se estructura en dos fases. En la primera, realizamos una investigación intensiva y un un diálogo a través de redes sociales. Durante esta etapa, i Collective contactó gente del los países del Norte de África y chateó con ellos acerca de temas como la identidad, la política y sus persepectivas a futuro, entre otras. Estas conversaciones sirven como base para la segunda fase del proyecto.

Durante esta segunda etapa, elegimos frases (citas) de esos diálogos y las imprimimos en camisetas ecológicas y de comercio justo. Voluntarios llevan esas camisetas durante eventos de arte relevantes, así como también en su vida diaria habitual. De esta manera, introducimos las palabras de los norafricanos en un contexto nuevo. De hecho, inVESTIR propone una dinámica de transferencia de subjetividad, al poner la voz de alguien en el cuerpo de otra persona. Hasta el día de hoy, más de 300 personas son parte de inVESTIR. Asimismo, los participantes norafricanos pueden seguir esta etapa del proyecto a través de las redes sociales y el blog.

inVESTIR fue desarrollado por primera vez para los Eventos Paralelos de la bienal MANIFESTA 8 en 2010, poco tiempo antes de lo que dio en llamarse la Primavera Árabe. A partir de los sucesos acontecidos en África del Norte en el año 2011, el proyecto se volvió más que relevante, al contar con un archivo de sentimientos, impresiones y opiniones pre-revolución de gente viviendo en estos países. Con el objeto de explorar los cambios que la Primavera Árabe provocó en la consciencia de la gente, i Collective decidi´continuar el proyecto en 2012. Desde entonces, inVESTIR fue presentado en Berlín (Alemania), Genk (Bélgica) en los Eventos Paralelos de Manifesta 9, Hallein (Austria) en el festival Schmiede, en una conferencia en el marco de la Social Media Week (Berlín, Alemania 2012) y en la Escuela de Arte Inter-mediático de Hangzhou (China, 2013).
